What was your dream?
Where did it go? Are you still holding onto it? Have you shared your dream with anyone, or do you keep it hidden within the quiet shadows of your silent memories?
Are you living day to day, just barely keeping your head above water? What would happen if you shared your dreams with your family? Would they laugh at you? Are you afraid of what might happen? Are you afraid of failure? Or maybe of success?
What would you think if God showed you what your life could become through your dreams? Would you believe it or dismiss it as silly ideas?
Joseph had a dream; in Genesis 37 we read about a couple dreams he had. Both of which symbolized Joseph being put in a position of power over his family. If you don't know the story i'll give you the bulleted version:
- Joseph had a dream and shares it with his family.
- His brothers get jealous and sell him into slavery in Egypt
- Potiphar, his master recognizes Joseph's work ethic and quality and puts him in charge of his entire household.
- Potiphar's wife recognizes Joseph's charisma and asks him to sleep with her; after refusing she accuses him of trying to rape her.
- Joseph gets thrown in prison. The head prison guard recognizes Josephs work ethic and quality and puts him in charge of the entire prison.
- The Pharaoh has a dream that no one can interpret. He hears that one man in the prison can; you guessed it Joseph.
- Joseph inerperets his dreams and Pharaoh puts him in charge over all of Egypt.
- A famine comes to the land and due to Joseph's insight and wisdom from God Joseph was ready. People come from all over to Egypt to get grain.
- Joseph's family comes before the Pharaoh's advisor for help and bows down before Joseph asking for help.
Look at your situation and ask yourself does God have you right where He needs you? The lesson through Josephs story is to remember that no matter what situation you're in you must listen to God's heart and continue with His work. He doesn't want us to suffer but when life finds us hurting and in less than desirable circumstances, God still has a plan and you can triumph. The key is to not lose sight of God. I don't know how many times I complain about the situation i'm in. How many "God Opportunities" have I missed because I was focused on me and my situation instead of on Him and his situation. If God blesses you and the people around you are effected by the blessing and benefit from it, don't focus on what they are gaining; focus on the fact that God is moving through you and His work will come to fruit if you remain patient and focused. Remember if you expect God to move through you His light is going to touch those around you, even if you don't think they deserve God's blessing.
Now go, and if you're a slave be a slave for God; if you're a prisoner, be a prisoner for God; whether you wear a white or blue collar; where it for God. Let the work of your hands be blessed by God for Gods glory.
And remember, even your employers and co-workers no matter how undeserving you think they are, will be blessed by God on your behalf; don't become jealous of this fact. Let God work through you, it's how He moves in this world.
